The Academies of Martial Arts
The Brampton Academy of Martial Arts is a professional school committed to the development of its students. Established in 1988, we look forward to continuing this commitment as we enter our twentieth year.
Children and adults benefit from self-defense instruction, physical conditioning and the structured discipline associated with the training offered at the Academy of Martial Arts. Their needs vary however, in how this information should be communicated. By offering separate classes for children and adults we allow these two groups to learn at a capacity that best suits their needs.
For our younger students we offer training and academic seminars in addition to our regularly scheduled classes. Leadership camps, adventure camps, youth training days and lectures are held throughout the year for these students. Structured to aid in the development of teamwork, problem solving and leadership skills, these popular events are always an enjoyable addition to everyone’s training.
Our Executive Martial Arts program is structured to meet those specific needs of the mature student. Here, the physical and philosophical elements of the Martial Arts are taught at a level of diligence that can be appreciated by adults. Once again - in addition to scheduled classes there are numerous lectures, training seminars, and retreats offered throughout the year exclusively to the mature student.
For all students, community support is a vital component of the principles cultured at the Brampton Academy of Martial Arts. With the support of our student body we participate in many community events throughout the year. These include district gatherings, local charity events, fund raising benefits and other community happenings.
Since 1988, the Brampton Academy of Martial Arts has been your source for the traditional disciplines of Karate, Tai Chi, Kobudo, and Jiu Jitsu. Let us help you to Achieve Your Potential.

Pilates
Kim Cyr brings a unique perspective to Pilates with her AMA Pilates program. Her program is structured to serve small groups, accommodating the degree of personalized attention normally seen only in a private class. For the Pilates client looking for that next level Kim’s program will offer many rewarding challenges.
Kim has been a student of Pilates since 1996. While undergoing treatment for acute back pain, following the birth of her second child, Kim was introduced to Pilates as a means of pain therapy. She enjoyed the way Pilates made her feel and soon noticed how many of her other daily activities became easier.
Kim’s Martial Arts background harmonizes with the technical demands of Pilates. The mutually beneficial aspects of these two disciplines made it easy for Kim to commit herself to achieving her STOTT PILATESTM Teaching certification.
Presently Kim Cyr’s Pilates credentials include:
IMP - intensive mat-plus certification
AM - Advanced Mat certification
ISP - Injury and Special Populations
IR – Intensive Reformer Certification
Kim began teaching Pilates at the Brampton Academy of Martial Arts in the spring of 2000, growing from two classes a week to the extensive program now offered. In the fall of 2007 she opened the full time AMA Pilates studio located at 13 Fisherman Drive, in Brampton. Operating seven days a week this studio is fully equipped, offering day and evening classes in a personal setting.
In addition to the Pilates classes that she teaches, Kim oversees all of the daily activities at AMA Pilates: structuring the program, class schedule, and managing the instructor base. If running a full time studio were not enough Kim continues to be a Pilates student, expanding her knowledge and expertise in this discipline.
Over the years Kim has had the opportunity to work with a wide range of clients with many unique needs. If you are seeking to improve your posture, strengthen your core muscle group, improve your sports performance or recover from an injury – please contact Kim Cyr at info@amapilates.com
